One Tough Question: Meat Puppets' Cris Kirkwood
"What was the worst gig you ever played?"

It's a question that has been attempted to be answered numerous times over the years, "What was the worst gig you ever played?"
Cris Kirkwood, the bass player for desert punks the Meat Puppets (who have a new album coming out April 12th via Megaforce Records, Lollipop), was kind enough to give the question a go recently. So without further ado, let's see how Cris does...
"God, there's so many! One of the highlights of my punk rock career was a time a dude managed to hit me in the back of a throat with a loogie. It was so gross - I think that was at the Mabuhay [Gardens, a now-defunct punk venue in San Francisco]."
"People were so into spitting back then. It was violent. It was just like, 'Haven't you people heard of personal space? Jesus Christ!"
"One point, I'm up there screaming my little head off, and I catch out of the corner of my eye, in slow motion - the guy's lips kind of purse, his cheeks puff up with air, and out comes a meteor-esque trajectory."
"It flies up and goes into my open mouth, past my tongue, and splats on the back of my throat! It was like I'd opened my mouth let a loogie in the back of my throat. And it was so gross, I could hardly believe it. It tasted like a loogie, it was just god-awful. That was pretty colorful."
"I wouldn't call that the worst though. That was one of the comedic highlights. The worst show? I give a rat's, man, I really like playing the fuckin' guitar, and I don't know if I can actually put my finger on what I'd call our 'worst show'."
